About Money Love and Change

Updated October 2026

Money Love and Change is a personal finance site built around one sequence: build a cash cushion, decide what you want the next stretch of your life to look like, then pay for the move. The site has three sections, and they follow that order.

Money

The Money section covers emergency funds, savings rates, and the accounts that hold savings. Its pages aim at a cushion big enough that a larger decision becomes possible to consider.

Love

The Love section works through deciding what to change. Its exercises are adapted from published life-design methods, including the approach in Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans (Knopf, 2016). Each exercise ends with something written down that you can act on.

Change

The Change section covers the cost of a specific move and how long a given savings rate takes to fund it. Moves covered include:

  • a career change or retraining
  • a sabbatical or extended break from work
  • starting a small business or a creative practice
  • giving to causes you support

Authorship

Money Love and Change publishes under its brand name alone, with no personal byline on any page. Each page names its sources and the date its figures were last checked. The Editorial Policy sets out how pages are researched, updated, and corrected.

Educational use

Educational content only. Nothing on Money Love and Change is individualized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Money Love and Change is not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, or tax preparer. For a decision that depends on your own taxes, debts, or investments, talk to a qualified professional such as a fee-only fiduciary financial planner or a CPA.
